New Look 6932 Review

Pattern Description:
Knit and Woven Children's Pajama Pattern
Pattern Sizing:
1/2-8
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow
Very easy
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
This was my first experience with knit raglan tops. I just needed more practice to not get wavy necklines. Other than that I love everything about this pattern. This is my go to for comfy jammies for the kids. I use it to make knit jammie pants/shorts. Super cosy in the summer. I have not tried the ruffled view yet.
Fabric Used:
Pants: Flannels and Knits
Raglan Top: Ribbed and other Soft Knits
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Didn't make any changes to the pattern. Just tried with different fabrics.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I have sewn this multiple times. I have a freezer paper copy on hand :) So I would definitely recommend.
Conclusion:
This is my first pajama pattern and absolutely love how quick it comes together. Its fast, easy, and comfy. Perfect for you little one :)

I used a soft giraffe knit for the shorts version. He wanted to make a Hulk face ;) For the tank used an awesome free tutorial from Fishsticks Designs.

They are the pants on the left. Made his Christmas jammies a lil bigger this year because his ones from last year shot up 2 in above his ankles :)
The ones on the right are from the Alex & Anna Winter PJs another jammie favorite.

Thanks for checking out my review

Simplicty 2749 Pattern Review

2749 Girls & Girls Plus Sleepwear
Girls & Girls Plus Pajama Pants, Robe, Headband, Bag & Knit Tunic Or Top

Size AA 8-16:
I sized down the pattern a lil bit to for my 6 year old

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes somewhat. My fabric choice made it a lil more soft and drapey.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
yes but I hated all the bias tape. It can bee seen. especially in areas of the drapey hood. Have I known what I knew now I would have made my own with the fabric I had so there would be continuity.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
My only dislikes are my poor choice in bias tape and that there are no ties to keep the robe from sliding open aside from the belt. You will want to add those. Also the bell sleeve are a bit on the long side. You may want to measure and shorten accordingly.

Fabric Used:

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Graded It down to at 6.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes I plan on sewing the nightgown. I would recommend the pattern but keep the bias tape in mind.

Conclusion:

Overall this is a very cute pattern. I plan to make other views and cant wait for the outcome.

Margarona Recipe

Back in november a couple girlfriends and I went to go see the last installation of twilight. We went to have a cocktail to kill time before the movie. So we stopped in a local mexican restaurant that I knew had some yummy margaritas. They were having a special on a drink called a margarona. Its pretty much a margarita with a Corona in it. Its was sweet, salty, and bubbly at the same time.  Its a fun lil mix. The only problem is they are kinda pricey.  So I set off to learn how to make my own.

Margarona
1.5 oz 100% agave blanco tequila (I used Lunazul)
1oz triple sec
1 oz lime juice
1 oz simple syrup (optional. Depends on if u need it sweet. I like it that way)
Margarita salt
Coronita ( Small Corona)

Make sure glass is wide and tall enough to put Corona in and still be able to sip from a straw.
Dip glass in lime juice and then in margarita salt.
Fill half or a little less with ice and pour in margarita.
Pop open your Coronita and carefully put it in the glass. I try not to pour too much corona in the margarita at first and pull it up a little as I sip on the drink.
Haha notice the fabric, thread, and wrapping paper.
Enjoy

Frankie Stein Costume Tutorial

My Frankie Stein Tutorial

So my 5yr old Jalexi, decided that she wanted to be a monster high characters for this Halloween. I had it already in my mind that she was going to be snow white. I had it all drawn out and figured out what materials I was going to need. It was soo cute!! Lexi had something else in mind so Frankie Stein it was. Luckily for me, it was not the worst one to choose because it was a dress and figured I could mix in match patterns I’ve already had to make it a little easier. I don't claim to be perfect in any way. This was my first costume I’ve tried by winging it. I made several mistakes some obvious and some not so much but I didn't stress. I just had fun and went with it. So here goes....
Frankie Stein
Materials used:

1 yd or so of Plaid

1/2 yd of White

(Both of these were a soft knit, so they were warm soft and no zippers needed.

I got these from Heather of Girl Charlee and let me tell you she’s the best!! Anytime I’ve needed something specific, she checks her fab selection and keeps an eye out locally. She’s a doll ;)

1 yd of black nylon chiffon for trim

1 yd of pistachio nylon chiffon for "skin"

1/4 yd black and white polka dot cotton (Mine was remnant) for the tie

A collar from an old white shirt

Black crochet thread for the stitches

Dress

Jalexi is wears a 5/6 girls and based the bodice from one of her tees. I traced it and used this video to help draft a sleeve sloper. I sewed and serged all seams. You can use a zigzag if you don’t own a serger. I used 1/4 seam allowance for everything.

I cut one bodice piece on the fold for the back. On the same paper pattern I cut out a scoop from the neckline and used the pattern again on the fold for the front bodice piece.

(Side note: I like doing this like this because it saves paper and I can always use tape to put it back and use it again. :) I actually cheated because I’ve used this traced pattern before for a super cute cardigan for Lexi. Tees make awesome patterns!)

I used the same pattern again and to cut out the front and back bodices in the white. I only cut about half way because I was only going to use it for the top part of the bodice anywho.

(I will say I never measured anything. I kind of just eyed it because Lexi was in school. Id figured I would trim or make any adjustments later.)

Here we have the four pieces ready to be trimmed and sewn together. I used a curved ruler to draw how much to cut off each piece. I made a straight line in the back and a curved line in the front and cut them both at the same time.

(Once again, I didn't measure. This would be the only time I would regret not doing so. I would have liked less white but then again it left room for the large black zig zag stitches on the chest)
After the cut is made, sew them together.

Pin right sides together and sew the front two pieces together and the back two pieces together.

Here Ive sewn the pieces together, pressed the seams with an iron, and top stitched the seams.

Here is where things took a turn and the reason why I don't have an obsessive amount of pictures to show where things went from here. I had originally planned to do an attached peter pan collar. Seeing how I’ve never done one, I checked out Pinterest. I found a great tutorial but my skills were not so much. I need more practice on those lol. Let’s just say it was an epic fail!! I put the collar on; it looked terrible, and then took it off and opted to a stretch collar.

Doing this, I measured the neck line and cut a strip of the white 2 inches wide.

I brought the two ends together and sewed them so that I had a band. I folded it so that the raw ends were together. I marked the front and center back, and both sides with disappearing ink and put it aside.

Next I sewed the shoulder seams together and marked the neckline the same as the band. Match and pin the marks together with the folded seam matched to the mark on the back of the bodice. Stretch and sew band to fit neck and serge or zig zag.

Next I cut out the skirt for the dress. I didn't feel like doing math so I used Ashley's Twirl Skirt pattern from Lil Blue Boo. I used the 5/6 and I took off 2" from the hem.
(Here is where I had boo boo number two. I wanted to have a full chiffon petticoat underneath but another epic fail on another first attempt. Not mad though!, I still had enough black nylon chiffon to make a really long 2' wide ruffle to go all around the skirt and both sleeves. so not all is lost :)

So I finished of the skirt by sewing and serging the side seams. and serging the raw edge of the hem. I attached the ruffle on the back side so that the serged edge can show and look more  ... umm edgy!?! lol. I had some netting from a previous project so I cut 5 more out of the skirt pattern to help puff up the skirt and pinned them all to the skirt.

(If I had more, I would have done differently and used a lot more fluff! Also would used a layer of  nylon chiffon on the bottom layer closest to the skin so her legs wouldn't itch. But the chiffon got messed up and went into the trash because I was NOT about to rip all those seams! Still all good though, maybe having too much fun)

Next I pinned the leftover ruffle to each sleeve pattern piece, (used this to create sleeve sloper)  pinned, and sewed them on. Once both were attached, I sewed and serged the side seams of the bodice all the way down the sleeve.

Next I pinned the skirt to the bodice and sewed and serged them together and this was the end result.

 Add stitches across the chest.
I marked where I wanted the zigzag stitch and then followed the guide.

 The Accesories

Collar and Tie

For the collar and tie, I drew a tie and cut out two peices. I sewed them together, turned the right sides out, pressed it and then finally tied it. The reason the ties are long was because I had orginally planned to have an attached collar and I was going to add velcro so the ties was easily removable. Plans changed so I tightened the knot and secured it with a couple stitches before trimming and using this tutorial for a detachable collar and tie. Ah ha, see not all was a loss ;)

Skin and Stitches
Arms:

I wanted to make her arm and leg warmers that looked like Frankie's skin tone. I added stitches to make it look like she was sewn up. For this I used my Coco Glove pattern from Violette Field Threads so she can put her thumb through. (Awesome pattern btw). I used the knit glove pattern and extended the length to go higher on Lexi's arm. I cut one on the fold and cut it in half to make it two gloves because I wanted it sheer instead of double layer.

I marked where I wanted the stitches to go and used that as my guide.
I just created "stitches" all the way across by tying knots and timing the strings so that they showed.

Then I pinned the right sides together and sewed them closed. There are my two "skin gloves". I also added a small peice of elastic at the top of the arm. Just enough to give a little stretch so the glove didnt slide down the arm and not so much that the elastic would be a bother either.

Finishing
Now just add boots, black and white striped wig, and a wide belt and you will have a Frankie Stein. Ill update with photo of whole costume closer to Halloween. Thanks for checking it out.

Edit: Added more pictures from Halloween. Love it!! She sure know how to work that camera. Love her. Peep the blue poly clay skull earrings. Another first, I had way too much fun.

Calling all Pinners!

Do you love Pinterest? I love the concept of the site. It’s a great way to organize your ideas and inspirations. Some say that it’s a time sucker, others I feel; are habitual pinners just collecting "pretty pictures", and some truly use it to make life a little easier. I’ve even saw a pin saying that it was "Fantasy Football for Women" lol. I myself do enjoy trying out the recipes or fun activities for the kids. If I like a pin: I save it to try again. If I dislike a pin, or tried it and it didn’t do so well; I delete them. I also use Pinterest to collect my idea for birthday gifts or projects I’m currently working on. I tend to be out of sight out of mind. So this helps keep them all in one visible place for me :)

I hope later on Pinterest will change the way you can manage your pins and boards. Adding a drag and drop option between boards like a real time idea board would be awesome. Maybe even making it possible to have private boards would be great. Once an image/resource is pinned; it is available to all. When someone else uses it, modifies, it and pins it a billion times. The idea is no longer original. Artists and creators of any kind would love private boards so they can collect their thoughts, ideas, and create something original without the whole world pinning it to bits.

I stumbled onto a new blog called Pinstrosity and found some of their stories hilarious. If you get a chance, check them out. I’m learning more to research pins before I waste my time and money. Some of their pins I’ve tried some I had saved for later and recently deleted lol.

Here are some pins I’ve tried (some many times), recommend, and would do again.
Smores Cookie Bars
Pepperoni Pizza Monkey Bread
Ice Cream Cupcakes
Best Ever Pulled Pork
Homemade Laundry Soap
Watermark Tee

What kind of Pinterest user are you? What have you pinned and tried out? I would love to hear your expirences. Have a awesome day!!

Bracelets are back!!

Ive had to much fun making these before but put them on the back burner because of time and ..well energy. After having some requests I put them in my updated Etsy store. Check out my Custom Sterling Silver Name Bracelets here.

Oh Little Blog How I Miss You & Girls Remodel Part 2

So the last two weeks have been super busy for me. I don't even know where to begin. For anyone who just started following, lets catch up. Ive been making over our daughters bedroom, added a new member of the family our house, and finally the worst of it all  . . .  Weaning off of anti-anxiety/anti depression medications for my long past post partum depression. Whew . . right?!?
that in its self is torture!!
I recent made a trip back to NY state to pick up my little brother. hes coming to finish high school in NC :) That in it self is alot of adjustment; A new home, school, and soon friends :) We are excited to have him with us and our kids are so excited about having Uncle Logan (who's only 14 lol) to play with all the time. Getting him settled in seems alot like getting married haha. All the paper work and trips  with my "soccer team" has been very wearing. For the most part, its looking like we are getting set into a routine,. Therefore I'm thankful.
Since returning back from ny we had to take a break from out mini makeover in the girls bedroom. So busy running around and returning to my real job has left me little time for anything else. However Jeremy and I were able to finish the closet (yesss!!!!!). Which was the biggest headache for me because everything that was inside was allover their room and everything elses was at a standstill until I was able to finish the closet up. I originally wanted to do the closet in all Elfa but I missed the sale :( So I had to improvise. We purchased two different systems and combined them in a way that was more affordable.

We bought two SystemBuild Closet Organizer Starter Kits with Drawers for $110 @ Wal-mart and added two more drawers for $31 each.
Walmart.com
Walmart.com

We also added two sets of double rods and shelves from elfa. Alternating between those and the systembuild systems.
The great thing about doing the closets it that I'm also able to go through and pick out the things that our children have outgrown at the same time so that i don't have to do it again later. Still have a lot more to put away. We bought the slim flocked hangers so they don't take up as much space, and I'm waiting on mini hooks and clips so we can hang the pants and skirts without buying the special hangers.
These cute flocked hangers are available at walmart for $15 for 30. They are the small baby size. Too bad they don't carry these in the regular size :(
As for my hooks and clips, as much as I prefer indie stores, I had no dicrimination against buying these overseas. Hooks like these tend to be overpriced everywhere ive looked locally and Ive had great experiences shopping overseas. Plus your $$ tends to go longer if you are willing to wait for shipping.

Colorful pegs from ebay to hold skirts onto hangers $5.99 w/shipping for 28 pegs.

Plus these mini hooks from aliexpress to hold outfits together.

Sadly painting is still in progress I have to finish the large wall and touch up the bed frame. Im definetaly ready to wrap this project up seeing as the baby will soon be ready for her "big girl bed". Looking forward to sharing photos of the closet and room next time :)

Girls Bedroom Remodel Part 1

So this year’s project (aside from organizing) is the girl’s bedroom. We bought our home back in 2008 with all flat white walls. I guess I could have seen them as blank canvases but with little time to dedicate to home decor with toddlers; this was the last thing on my mind. It wasn't till the second baby came along and the walls started to become not so white due to all these cute little hands. I’ve been wanting to something special for their room but have not put much thought into it until started I thinking about our youngest using a big girl bed. The room is about the garage to its kind of long and narrow with the closet and windows in the most usable spaces of walls. :( I know in order to fit another bed in there to accommodate 3 girls, I'm going to have to think of clever storage and eliminate furniture. It has been a slow start so far. I have to work at it when I have spare time which is none.
Here are some before shots. As you can see it’s not very clean or organized, that's because I almost forgot any before shots. This room has taken many changes over the last 4 years but its fine time I fix it up nice for our special little girlie's :)

So it was off to Pinterest for some inspiration. Here is where I drew some of my ideas from:

As for now I only have painted the base colors. I bright sunny yellow and very pretty regal purple for a large accent wall and two smaller ones where the dormer is. I purchased an all over wall stencil for the accent walls from http://www.designerstencils.com/. I wanted to keep the garden theme but make it more chic. I loved the lattice with floral stencil. It had exactly what I was looking for in an all over print without having to draw something out and cut it myself. Stenciling is very time consuming but the end result is awesome. I used some metallic acrylic paint so that from different angles it looks shiny. At first I thought the colors were a little extreme for my liking (could have also been the white walls for so long) but the stenciling softened the purple and made it work.

Once the painting is finished I can start moving on to other projects such as the closet system. It came in today at Wal-Mart (Yeeeahhhh!!!) Putting it together (Booooo!!!) Most of the organization will take place once that is finished. Combining three girls’ dressers into on closet will be interesting. If I end up still having to use a dresser, I wouldn't be too disappointed because I do not have many ideas for where to put their TV and Wii. Then next business is to freshen up the bed frames to a crisp washable white and I have planned an awesome way for my Lexi Poo to store all her jewelry.

So many ideas and too short of nap times. Loving how it’s all turning out so far. Cannot wait to share with what I come up with next.

How I Made My Kiddies DVD Collection Shrink!

Alrighty so I was on pinterst the other day and I found this clever way to store DVD's. Its quite similar to how I used to store all my Cd's back in the day lol. So I went shopping and bought this @ The Container Store for $25.00. http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10022645&N=&Ntt=cd+storage If you are wondering . . they do sell extras sleeves. lol

So I took out all the dvds and placeed them in the jackets. The only thing I did differently was to crop the titles from the boxes and put them in so the the kids can find them. Not all the  dvds had a picture on them. It was great not only was I able to reduce clutter but I found lots of movies we thought were missing. I wanted to tag back the pin that I found and lo and behold it was also from http://abowlfulloflemons.blogspot.com/ and I even bought the same exact cd conatiner lol. Another fine project done!

I even uncovered more than this and still have over half the space left for more. I beleieve it holds 120 cd's.

Typically they are 5x5 but I trimed and extra 1/8 inch off each side to make them slide in easier.

Put them inside infornt of the movie.

Recycled the boxes :)

The kiddies clean DVD's :)
Happy Organizing
